Theater Romathan

Theater Romathan is a theater of the Roma culture in Košice. It was founded in 1992 and it's one of its kind in Slovakia. The performances are in the Roma language and in Slovak.

The founding of the Roma professional theater was driven by the effort to make the conditions for the development and strengthening of national culture and cultural minorities living in Slovakia on an equal basis. In the sphere of Roma culture, professional artistic institution has been endowed with a much broader mission: not just to spread the culture, but this - in all its forms - to discover and strengthen - particularly in its four essential lines that are i.e. in word - oral tradition and language: acting, in poetry - lyrics, as well as the Roma melody, that is, in the legacy of ancient Roma songs: singers, but also dance expression: dancers.
