The Gloriette viewpoint is a new visitor attraction in the Ko\u0161ice Region, combining the romance of historic hiking trails with bold modern architecture and a touch of adrenaline. Best of all, you can easily combine the walk to the viewpoint with an exploration of Gelnica\u2019s mining history and a relaxing break beside Lake Turzov.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gelnica has a new reason to visit. Gloriette is a modern <strong>steel viewing platform covering 45 m\u00b2<\/strong>, anchored into the rock at just a few points through deep core-drilled holes. The route passes through pleasant woodland and is moderately demanding. Families with children can tackle it too, but should be prepared for natural terrain. <strong>The route is not suitable for pushchairs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sturdy footwear and some water in your backpack will certainly come in handy. Your reward for the climb is one of the most interesting new views in the Spi\u0161 region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-a-town-shaped-by-its-mining-history\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A town shaped by its mining history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would be a shame to visit Gelnica just for the viewpoint and then move on. The town was once an important mining centre and gained the status of a free royal town as early as the 13th century. Interestingly, making nails and chains was a particularly important craft in 19th-century Gelnica. Today, the museum also features modern interactive elements that introduce visitors of different ages to the work of miners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the ideal introduction to the town\u2019s story before heading out to discover its mining heritage on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-step-into-gelnica-s-underground-world\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step into Gelnica\u2019s underground world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To do more than just see Gelnica\u2019s mining heritage and truly experience it, head to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kosiceregion.com\/sk\/poi\/stolna-jozef-a-bansky-skanzen\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.kosiceregion.com\/sk\/poi\/stolna-jozef-a-bansky-skanzen\/\">Jozef Mine Tunnel<\/a><\/strong> in the Turzov area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tunnel provided access to the south-eastern part of the Gelnica vein and has a total length of more than one and a half kilometres. In the past, one of its functions was to drain the higher mine levels. If you are still keen to discover more views after Gloriette, be sure to add it to your itinerary. The hill offers a fine panorama of the town and the surrounding Volovsk\u00e9 vrchy mountains, as well as a peaceful setting for a short walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The castle\u2019s history dates back to the <strong>13th century<\/strong>. Dopo una storia complessa di ulteriori utilizzi e nuove chiusure, \u00e8 stata aperta al pubblico nel 2016 e oggi costituisce una sede espositiva distaccata del Museo Minerario.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":17011,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.kosiceregion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Gelnica-stolna-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17011\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Nelle vicinanze si trova anche il <strong>Museo Minerario all\u2019Aperto<\/strong>, dove i visitatori possono conoscere la lavorazione del minerale e le tecniche minerarie storiche.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>La galleria si pu\u00f2 raggiungere anche lungo il <strong>Sentiero Didattico Minerario<\/strong>, che, come il percorso per Gloriette, parte da Ban\u00edcke n\u00e1mestie. A circa due chilometri dal centro di Gelnica si trova l\u2019area ricreativa di <strong>Turzov<\/strong>, con i suoi laghi circondati dai boschi dei monti Volovsk\u00e9 vrchy.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":17009,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.kosiceregion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Turzovske-jazero-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17009\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Anche questo luogo \u00e8 legato all\u2019attivit\u00e0 mineraria. I laghi della valle di Turzov furono creati per le esigenze delle miniere e la loro acqua alimentava gli impianti minerari. Successivamente, presso il lago superiore sorse una stazione di cure climatiche. A Turzov si incontrano cos\u00ec, in un unico luogo, il passato minerario, la storia delle cure climatiche e l\u2019attuale vocazione ricreativa.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Oggi i dintorni del <strong>lago Turzov<\/strong> sono un luogo piacevole per passeggiare, riposare o fare un picnic nella natura. Se dopo la salita a Gloriette hai ancora voglia di scoprire altri panorami, inseriscila senz\u2019altro nel programma. Dalla collina si apre una bella vista sulla citt\u00e0 e sui monti Volovsk\u00e9 vrchy circostanti, mentre il luogo offre un ambiente tranquillo per una breve passeggiata.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>La storia del castello risale al <strong>XIII secolo<\/strong>. Nel corso dei secoli cambi\u00f2 proprietari, attravers\u00f2 periodi di ricostruzione e distruzione e per un certo tempo fu legato all\u2019importante <strong>famiglia Thurzo<\/strong>, dalla quale prese il nome di castello di Thurzo.
