Astronomická vyhliadka - Vlachovo

Stargazing has a unique place in Vlachovo as part of the tourist attractions of the Gemer region. This type of experience is becoming an increasingly popular form of eco-friendly and low-impact tourism, combining nature, relaxation, and discovery. Thanks to minimal light pollution in the area, the conditions are very favorable for observing stars, planets, and other astronomical phenomena.

Above the village of Vlachovo, a viewpoint in the form of a wooden gazebo with a terrace has been built, offering a panoramic view of the Slaná River valley and the surrounding hills of the Slovak Ore Mountains (Slovenské Rudohorie). This site serves not only as an observation point but also as a rest area and a natural stop for hikers heading to Mount Stromíš or the Gálová shelter. Its location allows visitors to experience the landscape in two very different atmospheres—by day and at night.

The terrace includes information panels showing a map of the night sky with marked constellations and their descriptions. These are complemented by QR codes, which allow visitors to easily download mobile applications for identifying stars and planetary objects. This solution connects traditional nature observation with modern technology and increases the educational value of the site.

The viewpoint therefore serves multiple functions—it is a tourist attraction, a rest area, and a simple open-air “astronomical park.” At the same time, it supports regional tourism development in the Gemer area and encourages visitors to slow down and perceive the natural environment away from urban noise.
