Main Street in Košice in the film As Good as Poison
The film Jako jed was directed by Vít Olmer based on a story by Karel Zídek and a screenplay by Jiří Lust. The film was made in 1985 in Czechoslovak production. In the main and supporting roles appear Zdeněk Svěrák, Ivona Krajčovičová, Libuše Švormová, Václav Švorc, Laďka Kozderková, František Řehák, Gabriela Wilhelmová, Anna Ferencová, Karel Smyczek, Michal Suchánek, Jiří Tomek, Ján Bzdúch, Jana Altmannová and others. The film also takes place on Hlavná Street in Košice in the fifty-ninth minute.
Pavel Hnyk (Zdeněk Svěrák) is educated and successful, but not completely satisfied in his personal life. He is aging and reflecting on his life, but he successfully drives away gloomy thoughts with the help of women and romantic affairs. His wife Alica has enough experience from her legal practice to know how such relationships and marriages end and what these situations bring to those involved and their surroundings. However, she does not stir trouble and quietly ignores minor affairs. Soon, however, Júlia from Košice appears, with whom friendship and affection grow into something much bigger. So big that it completely drives the man on the threshold of old age crazy. Their relationship becomes very visible, they become the target of mockery and gossip, and their lives change fundamentally. There are situations that do not favor them, and also those where everything goes wrong completely.
The comedy directed by Vít Olmer with music by Jiří Schelinger was made in 1985. Jako jed takes place mainly in Prague, in the historic center, in Malá Strana, as well as on the banks of the Vltava. Pavel’s life begins to change significantly after the fifty-seventh minute of the film, when the filming location also changes. From Prague, Pavel travels by train to Košice. His journey to Júlia begins at the railway station near the tram area, but at night hours without the connection he needs. Before the sixtieth minute of the film, he appears on Univerzitná Street. At its end, the Calvinist church on Hrnčiarska Street is visible. Pavel walks towards Hlavná Street. Then the camera turns towards St. Elizabeth Cathedral. Other Košice locations include a short scene at the Hornád river and, after a few minutes, the platform of the Košice railway station. The film was also shot in other locations in the wider city center of Košice.
