Múzeum vín Máté Laczkó Szepsiho

In the 12th–13th centuries, Moldava was one of the crossroads of medieval trade routes, where merchants from the south and north met. Wine was not only traded here but also stored in two- to three-storey cellars.

The Wine Museum is located beneath the Municipal Cultural Centre in Moldava nad Bodvou. The town lies almost halfway along the E58 route from Košice to Rožňava (or vice versa).

Máté Laczkó Szepsi is one of the notable natives of Moldava nad Bodvou. He was born in the 16th century and was a Calvinist priest, teacher, historian, chronicler, poet, and the producer of the first Tokaj “aszú” wine. The museum presents visitors with interesting facts about Máté and his rich life, wine production, the Wine Route, and the historic cellars themselves.

North of Moldava nad Bodvou, in the village of Debraď, there is a unique “Plant Church” and the spring of St. Ladislaus. This place represents an important hiking crossroads and is also a popular pilgrimage site.
