Water Mill in the Village of Kováčová

If you want to see a true water mill, we invite you to a tour of one in the village of Kováčová near Rožňava. The mill, which once belonged to the Andrássy family from Krásná Hôrka, is a unique technical monument with original equipment.

The village of Kováčová is located in the Rožňava district. Part of the self-governing unit of the village extends to the Drieňovec Nature Preserve, which is part of the Slovak Karst National Park.
In the water mill, you will see how flour was once produced and hear the story of the family of the last miller who had lived here before nationalisation in 1950. The restored mill wheel and drive are an integral part of the mill and you may take a close look at it.

The hemp breaker that was used in its processing is connected to a water wheel and is proof of the ingenuity of our ancestors. In the past, this hemp breaker was exclusively used by women, especially at night, when it was not ground. They put previously soaked and dried plants under wooden hammers and this separated the fibrous part of the hemp stem from the woody part. Hemp processed in this way could be further processed.

The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Lyócs, offer not just a tour of the mill premises, but also refreshments and a place to spend pleasant moments with the family.

In the neighbouring village of Lúčka, there are the ruins of a Hussite church, which are freely accessible to the public. The hill on which the church "stands" offers a beautiful panoramic view of the wooded surroundings and the village itself.
