If you are looking for a place that combines relaxation, nature, education, and a little adventure, the Senianske Rybníky fih ponds are a great choice. We went there on a sunny day expecting a leisurely stroll, and we left with lots of experiences, photos, and new knowledge about the world of birds.
The Senianske Rybníky fish ponds are best known as a birdwatching site of European significance. In other words, there are huge numbers of birds, wetlands, observation towers, and excellent conditions for birdwatching. But now it’s even better!
An edutainment trail
We started our walk at the Avescentrum (an environmental education and information centre in the village of Senné) and continued along the new educational trail, which is easy and ideal for families with children. After just a few metres, we noticed that these were not just ordinary information boards – there were also interactive and experiential elements, which we really enjoyed.

One of the most interesting things was the bird audio board – where you press a button and listen to the singing of various birds that live in the area. The board was a little challenge for us, which entertained us and taught us a thing or two. If you are like us – you like to try new things – make sure not to miss it.
Wooden footbridges and observation walls
The entire trail leads through beautiful natural scenery – wetlands, meadows, water areas, etc. To avoid wading through the water, there are wooden footbridges that comfortably lead through the damper parts. Thanks to the footbridges, we were able to reach places we might not have otherwise been able to access. We were walking slowly, looking around us, stopping occasionally to enjoy the sounds of nature and birds.
Another interesting feature was a bird watching blind, which now did not face the water but a field. Even so, we were lucky and saw several storks and white birds, which looked like they came from another world in that open landscape.

Lookout towers and land art
We came across three lookout towers along the route, each offering a view of a different part of the ponds. They are strategically located, and each one offers a completely different view of the landscape. From one of them, we even saw a flock of birds flying in amazing patterns in the air – a moment when we just stood there quietly and enjoyed the atmosphere.
At one of the lookout towers, we were literally stunned by a huge wooden loudspeaker – a visually striking element that is not just functional but also extremely photogenic. If you like stylish photos for Instagram, this place will not disappoint you.
And we shouldn’t miss the Kukaň land art – an interesting object in nature that once again combines art, landscape, and bird watching.
