Banský drezinový ovál na Bani Poráč

The area of the former iron ore mines Rudňany Mining Area in Poráč was declared an industrial national cultural monument in 2018 thanks to its unique technical winding tower. At that time, mining in the Poráč Mine (the last active deep mine in the Spiš region) was also terminated.

Together with a connected mining educational trail, the site presents preserved technical monuments related to the extraction of mineral resources, especially copper and iron ore. In the mining complex there is a mining draisine loop, which has become a new tourist attraction offering visitors the chance to experience authentic transport on a manually powered draisine, just as miners did in the past. The draisine works on the principle of a lever, which two operators alternately push and pull to move the vehicle along the rails. In the past, the draisine was a key means of underground transport, allowing fast and efficient movement through narrow mining tunnels. The newly built draisine loop recalls the hard work of miners and their daily struggle for livelihood. It is a symbol of technological progress and human ingenuity.

In Poráč there is also a Mining Museum with exhibits and a mineralogical collection of raw materials that were extracted in the area. Next to the museum is a mining adit approximately 120 meters long.
