Following the Vihorlat Narrow-Gauge Railway Trail
The Following the Vihorlat Narrow-Gauge Railway Trail is an educational hiking trail stretching 8.7 kilometres with an elevation gain of 332 metres. It leads from the village of Remetské Hámre to Morské oko, one of the most remarkable natural attractions of the Vihorlat Mountains.
Along the route, visitors will find several information points presenting the history of the former narrow-gauge railway, the flora and fauna of the Vihorlat forests, and the Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trail also features interactive and recreational elements suitable for families, school groups, hikers, and nature enthusiasts.
The trail is accessible throughout the year. During the winter season, it is maintained as a cross-country skiing trail. It enriches the region’s tourism offer by promoting sustainable tourism while combining outdoor recreation, environmental education, and easy hiking for visitors of all ages.
