GemCraft – Gemer Craft Centre, Štítnik

GemCraft in the village of Štítnik is a unique centre dedicated to the traditional crafts of the Gemer region, combining folk craftsmanship with a modern creative approach and tourism. This interactive space gives visitors the opportunity to discover authentic glassmaking, pottery and artistic woodworking directly in creative workshops.

GemCraft was established with the aim of reviving and preserving the traditional crafts of the Gemer region, which once played an important role in local culture and the economy. In the historic village of Štítnik, the centre continues a long-standing glassmaking tradition dating back to 1954. After the local glassworks closed in 2000, glass production disappeared for a time, but thanks to the GemCraft project, the tradition was revived after many years.

The centre includes glassmaking, pottery and woodworking workshops where handmade products such as blown-glass ornaments, ceramics and artistically crafted wooden objects are created. Visitors can watch the production process and also take an active part in workshops focused on glass blowing, silvering and painting, as well as creative pottery workshops.

Today, GemCraft serves not only as a production and exhibition centre, but also as a venue for cultural events, workshops, group visits and creative education. The project supports tourism development in the Gemer region while helping to preserve traditional crafts that form an important part of Slovakia’s cultural heritage.
