Kultúrno-kreatívne centrum Kláštor
Discover the fascinating story of the former Franciscan monastery in Rožňava, which dates back to 1745, when the foundation stone of this impressive four-wing building was laid. With two risalits, an entrance tower, and a church on the eastern side, it originally served as a home for monks who lived and worked here until the end of the 18th century. In the 20th century, the building underwent significant changes, including decorative paintings by Rožňava artist Július Ádám, which still decorate the interiors today.
After serving for a period as a retirement home, the building was leased to the city of Rožňava in the 1990s. After a long period of decay, the monastery became a place for community activities. Lease negotiations began in 2015, and the rental agreement was signed in 2016.
Since then, extensive reconstruction has been underway, turning the monastery into a vibrant cultural center. Hundreds of volunteers helped clear construction waste and prepare the building for a new life. Today, this historic gem is once again open to the public and serves as a place of culture, history, and community spirit.
