Čákyovský kaštieľ v Kluknave

Čáky Manor House in Kluknava has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The first written mention of the manor comes from 1682, where it appears in property records of Gabriel Berthóty and Juraj Beréni. The construction of the originally Renaissance manor began under the Thurzó family, who used stone material from the demolished Richnava Castle for its building. The Thurzó family owned estates in Spiš until 1636.

In 1638, the Thurzó estates were taken over by Emperor Ferdinand III, who granted them to Štefan VIII Csáky. However, the manor itself came into the ownership of the Csáky family only in 1693, when it was acquired by Štefan X Csáky. It was later rebuilt in the Baroque style by the son of Štefan X, and later also by Cardinal Imrich Csáky between 1715 and 1720. The Kluknava manor became the seat of this branch of the Csáky family, although later the family residence was moved to Smižany and eventually to Spišský Hrhov.

From the mid-19th century, the manor served as a summer residence and later underwent various modifications. In the 18th century, the living quarters were rebuilt into spacious halls with stucco decoration, and additional architectural elements such as stove niches and new corridors were added. The manor is a single-storey structure with four corner towers and an inner courtyard.

During World War II, the manor was damaged, and after 1940 it was used by the municipality for various purposes, including offices, a school, a medical clinic, a library, and community rooms. Over time, however, the building deteriorated until it was sold in 2004.

In 2007, a new era for the manor began when the new owner, EUROCLUB, s.r.o., initiated extensive reconstruction. Today, the manor has been revived as a **** design hotel and restaurant under the name “Biela Dáma a Čierny Rytier” (White Lady and Black Knight). A tourist information office is also open for visitors, providing useful services and information.
