Perínske rybníky – chránený areál

The system of ponds was built in the 1950s on the site of a natural depression where wetlands had originally been located. It consists of two main ponds – a northern pond with an area of 62 ha and a southern pond with an area of 35 ha – and a third so-called chamber pond with an area of 6 ha. The entire system is supplied with water from the Ida River through a special canal leading from the village of Veľká Ida.

Basic data:
Area: 110 ha
Location: 3 cadastral areas – Perín, Chym, Vyšný Lánec
Status: Protected area (CHA), under the administration of the Slovak Karst National Park Authority
Year of designation: 1987

The entire area is well maintained and definitely worth a visit. On the shore of one of the ponds, an observation tower was built in 2021, offering a beautiful view of the Perín ponds. From its viewing platform, visitors can observe not only the water surface but also nesting birds in the surroundings. Part of the accessibility and enhancement of the site is also an educational trail with four information boards.
