On the Laborec River, specifically in the town of Strážske / Krivošťany part, a new attractive water tourism feature was created thanks to a grant programme of the Košice Self-Governing Region called Terra Incognita. Its aim is to increase the attractiveness and visitor numbers of one of the most beautiful locations in the Košice Region.

Water tourism in the Košice Region has experienced significant growth in recent years. Thanks to several projects, boating on the Ondava and Bodrog rivers has been strengthened, and this year the Hornád and Laborec rivers are also being added.

As part of the project “The Art of Drinking Wine on Water,” a small boat rental service and a viewing terrace were created in Krivošťany. This space is intended for regional wine tastings, lectures on geotourism, as well as relaxation and nature observation. The boat rental offers four small boats for recreational boating on a nearly two-kilometre section of the river from the weir to the ruins of Brekov Castle. The rental is open during the summer season from Tuesday to Sunday, and boats can also be reserved in advance by phone or email.

The project also includes a viewing terrace designed for wine tastings and local gastronomy experiences. Visitors can also learn about the historical and natural richness of the region through geotourism lectures combined with active relaxation on the water.

The implementation included riverbank revitalisation, earthworks, installation of steel piles, construction of a massive steel structure clad in acacia wood, floating pontoons, and a stainless-steel footbridge.

The civic association “Friends of the Dragonfly,” which maintains this part of the Laborec riverbank, expanded the relaxation zone in Krivošťany with a concrete staircase and viewing terrace, added benches, and ensured walking paths and grassy areas so that even visitors who do not go boating can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the river.
