Vodný mlyn v Kluknave
Water Mill in Kluknava, built in 1910, is an important technical monument located on road III/3420 before the bridge over the Hornád River. The mill was powered by a Francis turbine, a type of water turbine developed by James B. Francis in 1849. This turbine uses a combination of kinetic and potential energy of water and operates as a reaction turbine. The torque is generated by reaction forces caused by changes in the direction and speed of water flow between the rotor blades, following Newton’s third law of motion.
The Kluknava mill race, which brings water to the mill, is an artificial canal approximately 400 meters long, starting at the Hornád River. Due to its technical value and historical importance, the mill was declared a cultural monument on March 22, 1985.
The mill building has a rectangular ground plan and a gable roof. On this roof there is a wooden tower-like superstructure, also with a gable roof and covered with sheet metal. This construction gives the mill its characteristic appearance, which is both functional and aesthetically valuable.
