Židovský cintorín v Košiciach
The Jewish cemetery is located right next to the Public Cemetery on Rastislavova Street in Košice. Burials began there after the closure of the old Jewish cemetery, when in 1889 the city allocated land plots to the Jewish community on a new site. The cemetery is divided into an Orthodox and a Neolog section, with a total of approximately 4,000 graves.
In the Neolog section, there is a single-aisle Neo-Gothic funeral chapel from 1900 with preserved stained-glass windows, which still serves its original purpose. Rabbis were buried in the Orthodox section. Within the cemetery grounds, there is also a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, built by the Jewish religious community during the socialist period.
The top of the monument is dominated by the Star of David from the former Neolog synagogue, while below are plaques with the names of Holocaust victims, and on the sides there are symbolic sarcophagi. The Jewish cemetery is well maintained, making it a dignified resting place of the once inseparable Jewish community of Košice.
