Experiencing the night/day as an Easterner

Košice Saturday partying

A city of different tastes, experiences, culture, art, nationalities and adorers of secret streets with history and an unmistakable atmosphere throughout the day. The beautiful centre offers all of that. If you want even more, use shared bicycles or scooters. Discover.

Start your morning where the sun rises in the east. In the morning you will be engulfed by the atmosphere at the Dominican Square market in the city centre. The variety of colours of seasonal fruits, vegetables and the countless scents of the flowers for sale will induce on you a feeling of joy. Listen to debates and smell the coffee in the surrounding cafés. If you had been here long enough, you would have learned all about the metropolis of the East from the “Košice girls and lads”. From the centre, those more active visitors can head to the city swimming pool, where the Kunsthalle – Košice Art Hall with modern art is on offer. Lunch will stop you for a moment on one of the terraces of Košice restaurants. If you like green courtyard gardens in city houses, the restaurant on Hrnčiarska Street a great suggestion. A proven home classic is U Kohúta.

If you want to see the centre of Košice all at once, there is no better place than Sigismund’s Tower – the north tower of St. Elizabeth’s Dome. After climbing the 165 steps of the spiral staircase, you will have the centre on the palm of your hand and a few dozen beautiful shots in your mobile phone. You will also see from above that you will find everything in the centre. But, if you would like to see even more, get on a bicycle or a green scooter and take the marked cycle path towards the Peace Marathon Square. If you see a naked bronze runner along the way, don’t panic, it’s ours! The East Slovak Museum is located right behind the monument and the Košice Golden Treasure is located in its underground interior. After the sightseeing, get back on the seat of the ecological relocator and continue along the cycle path north along Komenského Street. At its very end, just before the turn of the trams, there is the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy campus. We will tell you that it contains a park of interesting statues. The path to the Botanic Garden and we will take railway fans and flower adorers all the way to Čermeľské Údolie valley, where there is a boarding station for the Children’s Railway, the well-known Baránok Restaurant in Košice, the Ovečka and U Vlka buffets. You could continue on Bankov, Alpinka, but you would sweat. So go back to the centre.

A singing fountain in front of the theatre building is a compulsory ride in Košice. There is also a chime nearby, which sounds every hour. It is noisiest at Hlavná at 6 p.m., then all the church bells will ring. Remember that after the ringing, Main Street will start to fill up intensely and your chances of filling the best tables on the Košice prom will be drastically reduced. The summer Košice promenade has its own unique seaside atmosphere on the east coast. Instead of the sea, a small stream flows through the centre. The bed of the Hornád River, originally flowing along the current Štefánikova Street, was diverted from the centre, which means that Košice lost the river in the city for a while, but not the atmosphere of “river town”. Kováčska Street is the street of night clubs, Kasárenské námestie near the Úsmev cinema os the green corner under the crowns of linden trees, where you will also find great street food. You can find evening parties with a rich offer of the cultural programme in Tabačka Kulturfabrik and you will find more below.
