Evanjelický kostol v Spišskej Novej Vsi

On Radničné námestie in Spišská Nová Ves stands a charming historic Evangelical church. It was built between 1790 and 1796 in the Classicist style and belongs to the so-called “tolerance churches” of the Evangelical tradition.

The church has a cross-shaped floor plan, and its exterior architecture attracts every visitor. Inside, the main column altar features a painting of Christ on the Mount of Olives by Danish painter Johann Jakob Stunder.

The church also houses the oldest preserved library in the Spiš region, located on the gallery, creating a unique atmosphere with its rare books. The interior includes restored statues of the four evangelists – St. John, St. Luke, St. Mark, and St. Matthew.

Thanks to its excellent acoustics, the church regularly hosts concerts and festivals of classical and organ music. It is a national cultural monument managed by the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia and is still actively used for services.
