Farský kostol sv. Štefana v Kostoľanoch nad Hornádom
Church of St. Stephen the Protomartyr is an important historical and architectural monument whose origins probably date back to the 12th–13th century. The original church was later replaced by a new one, which was built in 1480 in the Gothic style by the city of Košice. In 1774, the church underwent a major reconstruction in the Rococo-Classical style, which gave it its present appearance. Further modifications were carried out in 1891, and the church was restored in 1929.
The single-nave church, featuring a high Bohemian vault in the presbytery and a Prussian vault in the nave, is characterized by its distinctive exterior architecture focused on the gabled façade with corner and tall pilasters. The entrance portal from 1774 is decorated with a Rococo relief of St. Stephen the King and the year of construction. The church tower is topped with a Baroque dome with a blind lantern.
Although the original furnishings of the church have not been preserved in their entirety, the church has retained its historical value and is registered as a cultural monument. Access to the church is enhanced by the Stations of the Cross, built in 2012, which lead along the road to this dominant building in the village of Kostoľany nad Hornádom. The fourteen chapels of the Stations of the Cross are situated on a retaining wall, further emphasizing the spiritual and historical significance of this place.
