Expozícia História baníctva na Spiši
Enthusiasts of mining history can view rare exhibits, photographs, and documents from the period of active mining in the Spiš region within the off-site exhibition of the Slovak Technical Museum in Spišská Nová Ves. This exhibition is located in the building of the Multifunctional Energy and Mining Centre (Multicentre).
Visitors can learn about the history of 34 mining towns and villages in Spiš, discover how mining was carried out from the 14th century, and admire a unique presentation of coats of arms of Spiš mining towns and villages, together with the coats of arms of the Slovak Republic and the Mining Association of Spiš.
The tour can be completed with a visit to the school mine Michal, where visitors are guided by a mining technician using miners’ lamps, offering an authentic journey into the past. This part of the tour must be booked in advance, as well as any expert lectures.
The exhibition also includes a permanent display called “Mineral Collection” with more than 1,300 samples from Slovakia, Czechia, and 23 countries around the world.
