Kostol sv. Joachima a sv. Anny v Kline nad Bodrogom

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Joachim and St. Anne in Klín nad Bodrogom is one of the most interesting early Gothic buildings in Slovakia. This small, single-nave church was built in the second half of the 13th century from quarry and river stone. Its corners are reinforced with larger stone blocks. The church is known for being the lowest situated sacral building in Slovakia, located at an altitude of only 94.3 m above sea level.

In the 14th century, the interior decoration was enriched with frescoes, of which only fragments have survived. During the anti-Habsburg uprisings, the church changed owners several times and was alternately used for Catholic and Reformed services. It was not definitively returned to the Catholic community until 1782.

The church underwent several renovations, most notably in 1849 and 1895, but after its official closure in 1907 it gradually fell into ruin. Restoration began only in 1988, when the perimeter walls and interior were gradually rebuilt. The barrel vault of the presbytery has been preserved, as well as a Gothic portal leading to a now non-existent sacristy.

Next to the church stands a simple masonry bell tower with a square floor plan and a tented roof. Nearby is the lowest point in Slovakia and a former meander of the Bodrog River known as Bodrogsek.
