Stratenský canyon - Slovak Paradise

This short romantic canyon near the upper part of river Hnilec, close to village Stratená, is an ideal tourist attraction for handicapped tourists as well. There is a road going through the canyon that was used by cars prior to the building of a road tunnel. Nowadays, this route can only be used as a tourist trail and a bicycle path; an educational nature trail also runs alongside. The information panels are dedicated to the history, caves, fauna, flora and geology of the surrounding area. It is the first nature trail built for wheelchair users as well; therefore all of the panels are put in a height legible primarily for the wheelchair users. The path is bypassed with 8 bridges above a 80 m high cliff. The vertical canyon slopes are full of interesting rock cavities, holes and caves, but which are unfortunately not accessible to the public and no hiking trails lead to them.
